Masters maul Silvertree 8-0

We played at our home ground for the first time since the season started. God is great. Glen Joseph got the nod as our pitcher on the day and did a sterling job throwing a shutout. . Apparently not according to self appointed pitching coach Shaun Elliot who wanted to jerk him in the first inning after striking out the first two hitters then throwing two balls. Yep, it’s tough being in the Masters pitching rotation.

The hitting highlites was definitely Mark hitting a massive 3 run homerun clearing the left field fence by quite some distance. The fielding highlites belongs to Nigel who took an absolutely amazing catch in rightfield then throwing out the runner at 3rd.Brekkerag mos. Some of the guys were struggling a bit with the bat, but due to safety reasons I shall not mention any names.

Coach Jimmy once again had a massive headache as he had a tough time selecting a team from 20 odd players. Yes we’re struggling with the numbers.

All and all a good game all round with lots of laughter and good baseball. And the guava juice was flowing after the game as per usual. Final score was VOB 8-0 Silvertree.

Macaw 12’s breeze past Mavericks

In a shortened game the kids managed to squeeze in 9 runs even though we could have amassed so much more. But due to the amount of inexperienced players we had to stop the running game which we are very good at. And play it base by base on our hits.

We had great all around play by our boys from Nur having a great catching game to Jaedon throwing a complete game in 35 pitches and picking off a player on one,to Caleb chasing down a base runner trying to go from 2nd to third. Then Talun coming in to catch for his first time and doing a great job.

But I must say that the play of the day came from Alex Boyle hitting a double over the center fielders head and then also taking a catch in right field. Well done boys

Long balls move Macaws past Mavericks. 21-4

Macaws visited Mavericks in Milnerton on Saturday with the intention of continuing the upward curve. And it did not take long for VOB to show they were serious by scoring 5 runs in their first inning via a 3-run bomb from Derick Bayliss and a 2-run shot from Lance Gordon.

Jesse Johnson started on the hill for VOB and he sat Mavericks down without scoring. A 2-out error by Mavericks followed by a hit by pitch put runners on 1st and 2nd with Jody Burch up. Burch then launched one for another 3-run bomb for VOB and an 8-0 lead after 2 innings. after an uneventful third inning Jesse Johnson opened the fourth inning with his second long ball of the season. A few more hits and the Macaws were up 10-0.

Then Johnson got sloppy on the hill and walked two before unnecessary sloppy baseball allowed Mavericks to score 3 runs to stay in the game at 10-3. Damian Perkins was called in to replace Johnson and immediately shut Mavericks down.

The floodgates opened for Macaws with Johnson hitting his second homerun of the game (a 2-run shot) and Lance Gordon, not to be outdone, hitting his second long ball of the game himself. By the end of the 6th VOB had scored 9 runs and needed 3 outs to finish the game. Two quick outs followed by some unnecessary base runners lead to Mavericks scoring one more run before Perkins struck out the final batter to give VOB a 21-4 victory and continue on their winning ways.

This young side is scoring plenty runs and need to continue working to clean up their overall game if they want to start competing with the top teams, but they are on the right track.
