10’s give it their all vs Oceanview 10-35

This past Saturday the 19th of October saw the VOB u10′ take on a very strong and big ocean view team. VOB u10 saw themselves missing a few key and strong players in their line up this weekend but many new comers and many young players stepped up and played very well. We do not look at the score line as a definition of the game but we look at how much fun the kids are having and how much they are actually learning about the game.

We saw many players stand out this weekend but we must give a special mention to Riley May who was outstanding at Shortstop and batted really well and Noah Rathner who was amazing at 1st base and batted really well in the lead off spot. This week also brought us twin boys aged four years old making their baseball debut. It is really heart warming to see young kids so interested in learning how to play this amazing sport. Overall we are seeing massive strides in our U10 team.

Special thanks to our umpires on the day Paul Bell and Marvin Mahoney as well as our scorer Zulfah Mosaval. Final score was VOB 14 Ocean View 35

U10’s vs Battswood 16-12 (BBC)

The season opener saw us host our neighbouring club Battswood. Our young and energetic U10 team did well and, in all honesty, held their own even though we had a few players playing for the first time. The game was very evenly matched during the first 2 innings as we went into the 3rd inning with the scores tied at 7-7. We went a bit by the way side as we were only able come up with 5 runs in our next 2 batting turns which was cancelled out by their 9 runs. Everyone in our team batted well with a special mention of Slade Sellars, Caleb Abrahams, Noah Rathner and Haniem Mosaval. Defensively our team did pretty well considering the other team was hitting the ball pretty hard. A special mention of Zeke Sellars (SS) , Zion Bell (P) and Caleb Abrahams (1B) who were outstanding in the field. We also had a few rookies in our team such as Gia Beukes, Jemma Jonathon, Zion Bell, Haniem Mosaval, Noah Smith and Jaydon Quickfall who were all phenomenal in their first baseball game. The result did not go our way but our kids played with lots of heart and had tons of fun out on the field which is the most important thing. A special thanks to our scorer Zulfah Mosaval, Umpire Yusri Pretorius and to Coach Kevin and Coach Paul for preparing the fields. Watch this team as the season progresses.

10’s take on Tygers.

VOB U10 Studs took on the mighty Tygers, who havent lost a game this past weekend. We started the 1st inning well restricting Tygers to 3 runs. However thereafter it seema the wheels on the bus fell off. As we had played Tygers before and know that they can hit dingers, we opted with our 3 awesome players in the outfield who eliminated any hit to the outfield.

Some nice work by Chad and Ronaldo while Smiley took a magic catch on the boundary. Meanwhile in the diamond we had young Kimmie taking plays at 2nd like a pro. Our batting let us down a lot in this game, but we will continue to work on it. On the batting front it was nice to see young Joel crushing the ball down the 1st baseline after struggling in this his first baseball season. Final score VOB 8 TYGERS 26.

Tens travel well?

This week saw our young ballers travel to Pirates. Given the distance a number of boys were late for call up but 15 mins before game time we had 9 players. All in all a good game defensively, however we need to stop throwing the ball unnecessarily once it hits the diamond. Batting must be said needs a lot of work as there are players, despite being told what not to do, still choose to change the direction and stroke of the ball.

Individual performance needs to be stopped and performing for the team needs to be the priority. It must also be said that there was some major improvement specifically Joel Roland who batted 4/5 in comparison to 0/4 in his last outing. Final score VOB 25 Pirates 18.

10’s change management but keep on playing.

U10….. Awesome performance by the boys today. Some fundamentals still need to be refined but we will get there. Well done to Leo hitting a 3 run homerun, Zeake for some magical plays in the diamond, Troy with his backhand pick ups at first, Chad for being the wall at 3rd and Ronaldo for nice cover plays in the outfield. One play at a time, one game at a time. Final score VOB 25 Durbanvillr 19.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Tens keep on marching

The U10’s played Crusaders on Saturday and won 23 – 12. Once again the boys batting was on par getting on bases and bringing runs in the 5 frames they played.

Caleb Abrahams was excellent at second base taking 3 brilliant catches and 1 double play.

Donovan Pietersen played at pitcher and stopped everything that came his way playing to first base where Troy Cassiem, playing first base took all his throws. Well done boys on an awesome win you guys deserve it. 👏👏👏

Tens duke it out with VDS 37 – 22

The U10’s played Van der Stel on Saturday in very hot conditions and won the game 37 – 22.

Both teams from the u12 boys fielded in the u10 game due to shortage of players namely Caleb Bell, Storm Doyle and Mo Maseko. Our batting was on top with the boys getting on bases.

The diamond players did their job in excellent stopping and not allowing VDS to reach bases. Rustum hit a solo homerun in the fifth frame. Storm Doyle hit two homeruns and a double, Caleb Bell enjoyed his batting as last batter hitting 4 homeruns, Mo Maseko hit two homeruns.

It was a well deserved win in the blistering heat.

10’s deal with the heat and Bothasig

U10’s played Bothasig on Saturday and won the game 15 – 3.

The boys took the field and restricted Bothasig too only one point in the first frame, good fielding and stopping in the diamond by Caleb Abrahams at second and Rustum De Bruyn and Donovan Pietersen at pitcher made the pegs to first base look easy where Zeake Seller took 5 outs on 1st base, the boys then restricted their opponents to no runs in the second and third frame.

Donovan Pietersen took 4 brilliant catches at pitcher position, Caleb Abrahams took 6 catches at second and Rustum De Bruyn 2 at short stop. The boys batted well this week against Bothasig. Zeake Seller impressed me with his catching on first base taking 11 catches in the game. Well done boys you deserved that win. 👏👏👏
